2014 Mazda6

Mazda has chosen an unlikely place--Moscow--for the world premiere of its next-generation flagship Mazda6 sedan, which will be making its debut in the U.S. early next year as a 2014 model.
While the Mazda6 shown here--the production model and not a prototype or a concept--marks the debut of all-new sheetmetal, it offers several other firsts.
The model follows the CX-5 and Mazda5 in offering the new Kodo “soul of motion” design language, which made its debut at the 2010 Paris Auto Show and later the 2010 Los Angeles Auto Show. But it's the first vehicle to be entirely designed under the direction of the automaker's Skyactiv engineering initiative.
It's also the first model to feature i-ELOOP, the brake-energy regeneration system that uses capacitors and can store more energy, faster, for stop-and-go driving with the use of lighter-weight capacitors.
In its European spec, the Mazda6 is being shown with a 2.0-liter Skyactiv-G engine and six-speed Skyactiv-Drive automatic transmission. It's been suggested by several sources that North American models will bow with a 2.5-liter version of the new engine and eventually hybrid and diesel options.

According to Mazda, the new model “stands as the flagship model for a new generation of Mazda products,” and much like the current Mazda6--which was introduced for the 2009 model year and hasn't actually been very well received in the U.S. market--it “features a sense of dignity, style, luxury feel and comfort expected from a vehicle in the CD segment whilst offering the pleasure of responsive and agile driving, which is at the core of the Mazda brand.” Let's hope the new model does better in hitting the mark with fickle mid-size sedan shoppers.
No other details have yet been provided for the new Mazda6, even in European spec, so stay tuned for more information on how this model is sized and how it might have changed relative to the current one. We do know that for 2014, Mazda will move Mazda6 production out of the AutoAlliance plant in Flat Rock, Michigan plant (which also makes Ford Mustang models) and to Japan instead. 

2013 Buick Enclave

After five years on the market, the Buick Enclave, which was introduced in May 2007 as 2008 model, is getting its first significant makeover.  Like its sibling, the Chevrolet Traverse, the 2013-model Enclave is making its debut at the New York Auto Show.
The styling tweaks are subtle. New headlights are now HID, with a blue accent ring, available swivel action, and LED running lights; at the rear are new, LED taillights. The hood, grille, fascias, and wheels have all been restyled, although you almost need to have the old and new versions side-by-side to see the difference.
Inside, the dashboard center stack has been redesigned and features a standard 7-inch touch-screen, which houses the controls for Buick's Intellilink infotainment interface. Already available in other Buicks and now migrating to the Enclave, Intellilink provides smart-phone integration, including Bluetooth phone and audio, and control of Pandora and Stitcher apps. The screen also projects the image from the standard back-up camera. And blue ambient interior lighting has been added.

2012 GMC Yukon and Sierra Heritage Edition

2012 GMC Yukon and Sierra Heritage Edition. GMC has announced the 2012 Yukon, Yukon XL and Sierra Heritage Editions, which will debut at the New York Auto Show.
2012 Heritage Editions will be offered on Sierra 1500 Crew Cab, Yukon and Yukon XL models in SLT trim. Three colors will be available – a new, exclusive Heritage Blue ($195), White Diamond ($995) or Onyx Black (no additional cost). Interior colors for the Yukon are Ebony and Light Tan.

Audi TT RS Plus

Just when you think an Audi TT RS can’t get any better, a ‘plus‘ edition turns up and bends your perception of what is good and what is really good. When we say really good, we mean blisteringly fast, outstandingly fun and unmatched in terms of performance. Whichever ‘plus‘ you might choose, the Coupe or the Roadster, you can’t go wrong.

The standard 2.5 TFSI 5-line engine found in the RS is already powerful enough but the ‘plus’ sees a further power boost from 340 hp to 360 hp. Now an even more colossal torque figure of 465 Nm (342.97 lb-ft) passes trough the gearbox which can be an seven-speed S tronic or a six-speed manual. The S tronic is naturally a dual-clutch transmission and has its own launch control for that lightning performance from the starting line. All models come with the flawless quattro system that sends power to all four wheels.

Performance figures are a little bit in favor of the S tronic transmission coupled with a Coupe: a 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) time for the Coupe S tronic is 4.1 seconds with 4.3 seconds for the manual. The Roadster performs a tenth of a second slower in both configurations (4.2 with S tronic and 4.4 with a manual). The speed limiter for both cars kicks in at 280 km/h (173.98 mph). All of that stacks up pretty well against the economy figures which allow the RS to be driven on an everyday basis - 8.5 liters of fuel per 100 km (27.67 mpg) if you go with the S tronic.

That fuel frugality, as well as the agile acceleration, is partly due to the diet on which the RS had been put. (They should have called it the ‘minus’). The Coupé with manual transmission, including quattro drive, weighs just 1,450 kilograms (3,196.70 lb). Other factors which might help the track performance include the four-piston calipers of the big ventilated front brake disks, the large fixed rear wing and the optional electro-magnetic damping suspension that has been a trademark the TT line for ages. The car itself sits on four 19-inch cast wheels (black with red lining on the rim) which are wrapped in wide 255/35 tires.

A striking feature that may give the car away as a ‘plus‘ version is the front grille – it’s a mesh of diamond-patterned design framed in what look like aluminum. Apart from that, there are the wing mirrors which are made from a carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) and the exhaust system which is distinguishable with its black oval tailpipe trims. A sound flap on the pipes, which enhances the roar from the engine is the car’s party piece.

2013 Accord

We like our Honda Accords around here, having awarded the car no fewer than 26 10Best awards, including in all five model years of the current generation. And so it was with keen interest that we watched Honda preview the ninth generation of the Accord at the 2012 Detroit auto show in the form of this coupe concept. Rendered in a gorgeous deep satin red with lots of glitzy chrome, the Accord coupe concept was not driven on stage but rather hurled like a curling stone toward the audience on a rotating platform, providing a 360-degree look at the car that will go on sale by the end of the calendar year.
Based on this show car, the 2013 Accord will be instantly familiar to anyone who’s seen the car we have today. But the sharp creases of the current model look to be augmented with a few more curves, most notably in the line that rises over the rear wheel and the kick-up from the rocker panel. Also, apparently the front and rear ends will look exactly the same. The next Accord coupe will be roughly the same size as now, but Honda says that the sedan will be shorter in length and lighter. The latter will face some of its stiffest—and best-looking—competition yet in the form of the 2013 Ford Fusion, the 2013 Chevrolet Malibu, and the 2012 VW Passat, to name a few, so to stand relatively still in the styling department places even more importance on what is found under the Accord’s skin.
