We like our Honda Accords around here, having awarded the car no fewer than 26 10Best awards, including in all five model years of the current generation. And so it was with keen interest that we watched Honda preview the ninth generation of the Accord at the 2012 Detroit auto show in the form of this coupe concept. Rendered in a gorgeous deep satin red with lots of glitzy chrome, the Accord coupe concept was not driven on stage but rather hurled like a curling stone toward the audience on a rotating platform, providing a 360-degree look at the car that will go on sale by the end of the calendar year.
Based on this show car, the 2013 Accord will be instantly familiar to anyone who’s seen the car we have today. But the sharp creases of the current model look to be augmented with a few more curves, most notably in the line that rises over the rear wheel and the kick-up from the rocker panel. Also, apparently the front and rear ends will look exactly the same. The next Accord coupe will be roughly the same size as now, but Honda says that the sedan will be shorter in length and lighter. The latter will face some of its stiffest—and best-looking—competition yet in the form of the 2013 Ford Fusion, the 2013 Chevrolet Malibu, and the 2012 VW Passat, to name a few, so to stand relatively still in the styling department places even more importance on what is found under the Accord’s skin.

Our spy photographers have snapped a few shots of the upcoming Mercedes-Benz G55 AMG and G65 AMG SUVs. The beasts are currently undergoing winter testing in Sweden, and from the looks of things, buyers will be able to chose between two brawny boxes when the vehicles receive an official debut next year. The G55 is likely to feature a 525 horsepower, twin-turbocharged 5.4-liter V8 engine along with the subtle grille and bumper updates we see here. The globe-crushing SUV will also likely receive larger, more capable brakes as well as an updated interior. Otherwise, we can expect the G's sharp angles to soldier on in perpetuity.
If the G55 isn't enough to make you giggle, Mercedes-Benz is also planning an even more exclusive G65. That terror will come boasting a 6.0-liter, twin-turbo V12 engine good for 612 horsepower and 737 pound-feet of torque, though only 200 units will be produced. How's that for maniacal? All-new 2013 Mazda CX-5.

The Mazda CX-5 replaces the long-in-the-tooth and recently departed Tribute, a rebadged Ford Escape. It just so happens that an all-new Ford Escape is also being introduced at the LA Auto Show. This time the two competing models are not related, as the once entwined automakers go their own way.
The CX-5 is a showcase for Mazda’s Skyactiv technology, a holistic approach designed to save fuel by optimizing the all-new engine and transmissions, as well as weight savings. In many ways, Skyactiv is a concept reminiscent of BMW’s “efficient dynamics.” Mazda admits that developing a hybrid or another more flamboyant green technology is beyond the small company’s resources. The CX-5 is a fresh start from the ground up and will spawn future derivatives.
The CX-5 is powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, mated to either a six-speed manual or automatic transmission. With 155 horsepower, the CX-5 enters the small SUV segment with some 30 hp deficit against some competitors, but the Mazda folks say that the sport-cute’s lower weight won’t make drivers feel shortchanged. Mazda also says that the CX-5 emphasizes dynamic styling and sporty handling without sacrificing comfort or fuel economy.
Three trim lines will be available: Sport, Touring, and Grand Touring with either front or AWD. It goes on sale in early March 2012. A diesel version may arrive in mid 2013.

Earlier this year, executive editor Chris Paukert and I were chatting one morning about the 2011 Audi A6 he was driving – a car that would soon be replaced with the sharp new 2012 model you see here. 2012 Audi S8.

It's been several months since Audi unveiled its latest A8 flagship sedan, and you know what that means, boys and girls: that's right, a new S8 is almost upon us.
The performance version of the luxury limousine has been spied undergoing what looks like final testing, given a lack of camouflage or body cladding on the test mule snapped in our high-res image gallery. Official: New R8 Limited Edition celebrates 10 Le Mans victories for Audi. Audi has worked up a special edition version of the company's R8 to commemorate the German automaker's victories at Le Mans. Powered by the same 430 horsepower, 4.2-liter V8 found in the base coupe, the R8 V8 Limited Edition models are available with special titanium-effect paint with titanium-toned wheels to match. Those rollers are 19-inch double Y-spoke bits that were crafted in the spitting image of the hardware found on the R8 GT Coupe. Buyers can also expect to find a set of red brake calipers tucked behind the wheels. All of the company's standard metallic and pearl effect paint options will also be available on the commemorative cars.

Inside, the R8 V8 Limited Edition comes with satellite navigation and Audi Music Interface with a Bang and Olufsen sound system as well as a unique interior lighting package and Bluetooth hands-free calling. Prices start at £93,935 in the UK. That figure translates to around $150,000 (including Britain's costly Value Added Tax), though there's no clear indication as to whether or not any of the 100 examples will make their way to the States or how much Audi will ask U.S. buyers to pay.

Audi A3 etron Concept.

The suspension carries over, with a MacPherson design up front and a four-link independent rear end, along with 20-inch wheels wrapped in 245/30 R20 rubber at all four corners. The square setup would indicate that the e-tron is all-wheel-drive, but Audi doesn't give any specifics on how power finds its way to the ground.
The exterior is a dead-ringer for the original A3 concept, albeit e-tronified with a new Audi grille and bumper framed by a carbon fiber-reinforced frame, aluminum hood, trunk and doors. However, the weight savings is largely nullified by the battery weight in the boot, increasing the curb weight to 3,792 – nearly 400 pounds more than the original.
Inside, it's typical concept car flare partnered with Audi's next-generation MMI system complete with a UMTS module to provide wireless internet, WLAN hotspot functionality and Google mapping and POI search.
A toned-down version of the A3 sedan is due to hit the market late next year, and if Audi intends to stick to its electrified roadmap, we could see an e-tron variant arrive by 2013 at the earliest. Full details in the press blast below the fold.

Audi R8 GT Spyder.

We’ve seen the teasers, now here’s the first round of spy shots for the upcoming Audi R8 GT Spyder. The convertible supercar is scheduled to be revealed for the first time at the Le Mans 24 hours endurance race this June ahead of an official world debut at the 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show in September.
As with the R8 GT hard-top that recently went on sale, Audi engineers are thought to have shed some 220 pounds from the R8 Spyder’s curb weight. This was done likely through the use of light weight carbon fiber and aluminum, thinner glass and sheet metal and a fixed rear wing in place of the previous automated one.
The hardcore convertible will also sport the same 560 horsepower and 398 pound-feet of torque version of the R8’s 5.2-liter V-10 engine, which the automaker claims is good for 0-60 mph acceleration of around 3.6 seconds and a top speed of 193 mph.
Drive will be sent to all four custom wheels via an uprated version of Audi’s six-speed R-tronic robotized manual transmission and a viscous coupling that sends up to 85 percent of torque to the rear wheels during normal driving. Of course, more torque can be sent to the front wheels should the system detect a loss of a traction.

Following yesterday’s leak and the official stuff we saw last month, Audi has finally released the full gamut of images and details on its svelte new A3 Sedan Concept, which is on display this week at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show.
The car is a preview of the next-generaiton A3 and represents the typical Audi language of sporty elegance. It integrates the now familiar single-frame grille, with its tapered upper corners and headlights, with the latest generation of Audi's LED technology. The low, flowing roof dome and a coupe-like low C-pillar are among the distinctive features of the side view.
Interestingly, Audi has fitted carbon fiber pieces for several components of the body. These include the single-frame grille, side view mirrors, and rear diffuser insert. Thanks to such weight saving, the concept tips the scales at 3,395--nothing to brag about but reasonable given the technology inside.
Measurements confirm it will remain in the small car segment: 14.57 feet in length, 6.04 feet in width and 4.56 feet in height.
On the center console are four large round air vents. The air flow is adjusted by pulling and pushing on the center axis of the vents. The control knobs for the automatic air conditioning system are located in the lower section of the center console and are joined by a round MMI controller with a touch pad surface.
Located behind the compact, flat-bottomed, three-spoke multifunction steering wheel are two analog dial instruments with black dials and red needles, complemented by additional kidney-shaped displays. In between the two large round dials is the large, eight-inch display for the driver information system. The display is user-programmable--the driver can select the content to be displayed from an extensive menu.
Under the hood sits a turbocharged five-cylinder engine with 408 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque on tap. This is linked with a seven-speed dual clutch transmission and Audi’s quattro all-wheel drive system, suggesting that a high-performance RS3 version is planned.
Audi promises a 0-62 mph time of just 4.1 seconds and a top speed electronically limited to 155 mph. In terms of fuel consumption, the four-seater gets by on 25.85 mpg for the European combined cycle and emits 341.18 g of CO2 per mile.

Audi A6 rolled off the line for the first time in 1994 intended for the 1995 model year. It was preceded by the Audi 100 but when the 100 was restyled, Audi changed the name to fit in with the brand's new scheme of naming their models alphanumerically. The major differences between the 100 and the first-generation A6 were mostly superficial. New headlights and taillights were showcased on the exterior, as was a revised front-end grille. Engine options ranged between a 1.8L 20-valve four-cylinder, a 2.8L 30-valve V6, and a 2.3L inline five-cylinder. A Turbocharged Direct Injection inline four-cylinder diesel engine was also made available. And as with most models under the banner, the A6 was offered in both front-wheel drive and with Audi's vaunted Quattro all-wheel drive system.

The second generation of the A6 premiered in 1997. Constructed off of Volkswagen's C5 platform, the A6 was now outfitted with a fresh variety of engines and thrown into direct competition with other European luxury powerhouses such as BMW and Mercedes. The exterior received a slight makeover, including a more aerodynamic fastback styling. Power was supplied by an increased number of engine configurations, but a 2.4L 30-valve V6 and a 2.8L version were the main choices. During this series, Audi's five-speed tiptronic automatic transmission became offered in the A6 for the first time alongside the usual five-speed manual gearbox. The Audi A6 also welcomed in a V8 variant, which displayed flared out fenders, a different, grille, larger wheels, larger brakes, and standard Quattro all-wheel drive. An additional redesign came in 2002 for the rest of the A6 models and featured new engine options, a revised front-end (both grille and headlights), and other minor exterior details.
Released in 2004, the third generation of the Audi A6 is a stiff competitor inside the midsize luxury segment. Available as both a sedan and wagon (the Avant), the A6 can be had in three different trims: base 3.2, 3.0T, and 4.2 (the Avant is only available as a 3.0T). Engine options range from a 255 horsepower V6, a 350 horsepower V8, and a supercharged 300 horsepower V6. The interior is of course, upscale, and shows off plenty of standard luxury amenities such as heated leather seats, power seats, power windows, and power locks.
